Two Initiatives Making A Difference

Hi Book Lovers,

We've had a busy end to our school year.

At the end of our semester in May, a group of us took some books to the Jefferson Market Library, a New York Public Library. New York Public Library has a Correctional Services scheme where they create a mobile library and bring it to prisons like Rikers Island, one of the five DOC city jails part of the initiative.

One reader at Rikers Island jail said: “My experience with the mobile library has been great. I don't think I ever read a whole book before I started going to the mobile library. Now I can say I've read over 100."

Over the summer, we partnered with the Mathematics, Civics and Sciences Charter School of Philadelphia, Inc. (MCSCS) to make an Amazon Wishlist of books they needed for the 2018-2019 school year. MCSCS’s mission is to ‘provide a quality education to children and youth classified as academically at-risk’. Supporters could buy books on the list from Amazon to be sent directly to the school. It was a great success, and we’d like to thank everyone who donated for helping students in Philadelphia access these important and fundamental learning resources.
